So you heard the word FREE, saw that it was comic books that were free, and were interested enough to check out this website about Free Comic Book Day. Or maybe you've been to one of the previous Free Comic Book Days held at Fanboy Comics and were wondering about our plans for this year's event. Or maybe a sentient computer has hacked your mainframe and is redirecting all websites to this website because it feels strongly you need to be educated about Free Comic Book Day. Well, no matter which of those situations you've found yourself in, you're in luck, (well, depending on how malevolent the sentient computer is, I suppose) because Free Comic Book Day could not be simpler or better! You come into the store, we have some comic books available for you to choose from, you pick out a few of those comic books, and we give you the ones you selected! That's it!
Well, that could be it, but it's not. We always like to do more than the bare minimum at Fanboy Comics. I could describe all the stuff we're doing for this big event, but it'd probably just be for the best if you just looked at what we have scheduled for that day:
That's a lot of stuff going on! And that isn't even mentioning the hundreds of dollars in door prizes we'll be giving away every hour throughout the day--starting at 9:00 AM with the
Be in line at 9:00 AM and we will do a drawing for a chance to win nine amazing door prizes, including the Amazing Spider-Man Omnibus, a $99.99 value! We'll also be giving away variant covers, t-shirts and lots more! You must be present to win for this particular drawing, but not for the door prizes we will give away every hour thereafter!
If you're wondering what to expect from Free Comic Book Day, here are some pictures of last year's event!
It's not really a secret that the main draw behind Free Comic Book Day is the free comics. Just look at the title of the event. Man, though, there are a lot of them. To help you figure out what you want before you get to the table, here's a list of all the comics we'll be giving away on Free Comic Book Day, along with pictures of the covers! Just click to view a larger version of the cover, but keep in that while the contents of these books won't change, some of the cover images might change between now and Free Comic Book Day.
We'll have all of these comics available when we open for the day, but we do only have limited quantities, so they're only available while supplies last. Hey, it's not Infinite Comic Book Day, although if science can figure out a way to do that, we'd love to be a part of it!
One of our favorite things to do with Free Comic Book Day is reward those who are willing to get there early, and that's why we like to put together some special gift bags for the first 50 people through the door. What will be in these gift bags, you may ask? Well, each one will contain these Free Comic Book Day comics that will be exclusive to these gift bags (you can click any cover to see a larger version):
What else will we be offering? Well, here are a few of the many items you can find randomly distributed throughout these gift bags:
Those are a lot of good reasons to get to Fanboy Comics early that, day, but we also have other stuff going on, thanks to our helpful sponsors! Read on!
We really think those First 50 bags are worth the wait, but that doesn't necessarily make the wait enjoyable. So, to make that hour before opening fly by, we've enlisted some help from some great sponsors:
Chick-Fil-A at Mayfaire is doing a ton to help us out. For example, they're making sure we don't have to deal with a bunch of hungry people when we open the doors by giving out FREE CHICK-FIL-A CHICKEN BISCUITS to people waiting in line that morning. This is, of course, while supplies last, but they should have a hefty amount of biscuits that they'll be distributing either until noon or until they run out.
Well, everyone knows that the actual food part is only half a breakfast--the other half is, of course, caffeine, and Cuppy's Coffee will be there supplying FREE COFFEE for you to enjoy with your chicken biscuits. Yeah, those Cuppy's folks are alright, and doing their part to make sure we don't have to deal with a store full of hungry, tired people when we finally open the doors at 11:00 that morning.
Okay, so eating and drinking is two thirds of the equation, which would leave us with "being merry," and GameStop is here to help us out with that part! Prior to opening, they'll be running a tournament for the hit Wii game, Super Smash Brothers Brawl, right there in the Fanboy Comics parking lot--with a $50.00 GameStop gift certificate as the prize! The only entry fee required will be a $5.00 donation to the Anita Trivette Heart Transplant Fund and, well, I think that's a fair trade for some good times and a chance at that Gift Certificate!
Fanboy Comics would like to thank all of these sponsors for their generosity and, honestly, we think anyone reading this should buy more of their goods and/or services!

Mayfaire Cinemas is always a great help with Free Comic Book Day, and we appreciate everything they do to help us with it. This year, they've donated some great prizes (check out what they donated for our raffle, below) and they'll be hosting us at the theater the weekend of Free Comic Book Day--which also happens to be the opening weekend for the Iron Man Movie! How are we taking advantage of this fortuitous synchronicity? Well, check this out:
Just so you know, the free comics we'll be giving away at these events will be while supplies last. We don't anticipate any problems, but it never hurts to be careful!
Anita Trivette is a 27-year-old woman from Boone, North Carolina, who currently lives in the Wilmington area. She has a severe heart condition, and needs a heart transplant to live. The procedure is very expensive, and Anita's condition prevents her from working, so she has to rely on the kindness of others. There have been several fundraisers held in the area for Anita, and we at Fanboy Comics want to do what we can to help. To that end, we're holding two charity fundraisers to help Anita: a silent auction and a raffle.
The theme of this raffle is "Get Set For a Year." Here, take a look at what the winner will get:
You're welcome to add those values up and get a more precise value, but I'm pretty sure that combined they're over ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS. That's a lot of prize, and all you need to do is buy a $3.00 raffle ticket (although if you like buying in bulk, you can get four tickets for $10.00) and get lucky. All of the proceeds from this raffle will go to helping out Anita.
We've also gotten some runner-up prizes for the raffle!
Tickets will go on sale April 14th and be sold through May 5th, and the winner will be selected on Tuesday, May 6th. Good luck to everyone who participates!
The most important thing about a Silent Auction is what's going to be on sale. Here's a list of a ton of stuff that we'll be auctioning!
