With all the interest in the Fantastic Four these days, we'd be quite lax in our responsibilities if we didn't help you find the best Fantastic Four trade paperbacks and graphic novels. Here's the list we've compiled of the Top 5 Fantastic Four Collections:
5) The Essential Fantastic Four, Vol. 3
This collects some of the key issues of the early Fantastic Four run by the legendary Jack Kirby and Stan Lee, including the first appearances of the Black Panther, the Inhumans, the Negative Zone, the Silver Surfer, and Galactus! Not only that, but it also has the highly acclaimed "This Man, This Monster!" story that is widely considered to be one of Stan Lee's best scripts. Sure, it's in black and white, but it's only seventeen bucks! That's a good deal for over twenty classic comic issues! Of course, if you want to read these classic issues in color, you should definitely check out the second Fantastic Four Omnibus. Which may or may not be our number one selection. If I were to tell you, that would spoil the suspense!
4) Fantastic Four/Iron Man: Big in Japan
People talk a lot about Jack Kirby these days, but usually it's in reference to people who are trying to pay homage to his inimitable style. Well, I'm about to compare Seth Fisher to Jack Kirby, and it's not because his stuff looks the same. Rather, it's because he crafts such unique, colorful visuals in a style that is wholly his own. Combine that with a script that's about the Fantastic Four fighting giant monsters in Japan (with some help from Iron Man), and you get a story that feels like it would almost be in place during Lee and Kirby's seminal run.
3) Fantastic Four Vol. 1
Despite whatever nonsense Jarvis spouts in his reviews about J. Michael Straczynski, I think the man is an excellent character writer. Sometimes his plots leave a bit to be desired, or perhaps try too hard to totally change things, but I always think he can get inside of character and make sure that it's believable, convincing dialogue coming out of that character's mouth. So, who better to write the Fantastic Four, which is pretty much a collection of some of the most distinctive voices in comics!
2) Ultimate Fantastic Four Vol. 6
What does Mark Millar write when he's not writing torturously epic and massively delayed crossover events? Actually, he writes some pretty awesome stuff for the Ultimate line. This trade collects the cap to a great run, featuring two great three-part stories. One is "President Thor," which actually has very little to do with Thor or the office of the president, and is instead a fairly dark but ultimately inspiring story about Time Travel, Ben Grimm, and the Skrulls. The other is "Frightful," which concludes the Zombie Fantastic Four story thread that originated in the previous trade (which is also where the whole Marvel Zombies-verse came from) and finally established Ultimate Doctor Doom as a worthy counterpart to the one true Doctor Doom in the eyes of this die-hard Doom fan. All of this is illustrated by Greg Land, whose art looks quite good when you're not trying to figure out what porn star he used as photo reference.
1) The Fantastic Four Omnibus, Vol. 2
You know everything I said about Volume 3 of the Essential Fantastic Four? Well, it goes double for this, which collects all of the same stories in an extra-large, full-color, hardcover edition. It's pretty much the only way you'll be able to read this issues this way short of traveling back in time to the 1960s. If you've got a hundred bucks to spend, you might as well drop it on some time-tested comics by two of the most legendary names in the industry. Well, when it comes out in a couple of months.

What with the stuff that's going on and all! It'll be on schedule that next Saturday, though.
The New Warriors #1
Guess what? The New Warriors, made famous as the spark that ignited the Civil War, (you may have heard of it) are back. "But wait," you're saying, "the New Warriors are dead! Someone as intelligent and handsome as you must know that!" Well, this might not be the New Warriors you're familiar with. Sure, a familiar face or two might show up, (particularly on the last page) but this first issue focuses largely around Sofia Barrett, familiar to some as Wind Dancer from the X-Men, now depowered after M-Day. If you're throwing up your hands right now and saying, "Who cares!" then you should probably calm down! It's just a comic book about a nineties superhero team. Also, you should check the book out, because it reads pretty danged good, in spite of (or perhaps because) it doesn't have any of Marvel's heavy hitters. Definitely worth checking out.
Transformers: The Official Movie Adaptation #1
Would you like to know the plot of the Transformers Movie before it comes out? Why? It's a Michael Bay film. The plot will, most likely, be entirely unrelated to how awesome the movie is, unless it gets in the way of the cool looking stuff. (See Harbor, Pearl) Still, I guess there are those who are interested in such things--and for them, I present this comic book.
Daredevil: Battlin' Jack Murdock #1
The definitive origin of Daredevil...'s Dad! Which actually looks like it'll be pretty danged cool. Daredevil's dad has always pretty much been the main influence on Daredevil's personality and morality, and this book is definitely about that. So it's sort of like Daredevil's origin, once removed. The four-issue series plans to take you through the four rounds of Battlin' Jack Murdock's final fight, where he betrays the gangland bosses and fights with integrity that would later inspire a blind dude to dance around in red pajamas at night.
F.E.A.R. Agent: The Last Goodbye #1
Old-School pulp action! It's not the boring Star Trek science fiction where we go and talk to the space aliens and have them join parliament--we kill the crap out of them. Because aliens are bad, and that's what we do to bad stuff. Kill the crap out of it. And here's the origin of the master of crap-killing-out-of, as far as aliens are concerned: the Fear Agent! Seriously, why wouldn't you read a book about a dude who just kills the crap out of aliens? Is it because you're a coward?

It's easy to learn to play games! Just stop by Fanboy Comics on Tuesday or Friday from 5:00 to 9:00 PM
and find Atwood "The Rib" Boyd, our newly hired Game Counselor! He'll
be available to teach you any game you want, or just to play games!
That's right, we've got someone on staff whos job is to play games! As
a fellow employee who has to spend hours photoshopping together obscure
video game magazine references, I can confindently say that I'm not
bitter at all. Oh, wait, I was mistaken, I'm incredibly bitter. That's
not really a change from the status quo, though, since I am pretty much
a barely contained fountain of rage.
The Rib will also be around to help people paint and build their
armies, and he'll have a ton of free stuff to give away to people who
show up for demos. You can also sign up in our game directory, a way
for people to connect with gamers they don't even know yet!
The Rib also runs board game demos on Board Game Night, every Monday. Here's a flyer about that:

Oh, and here's what we're playing:

(both of which we can order her at Fanboy Comics if they aren't in
stock) but it's not required. There will be pre-made characters
available for new players, but if you're familiar with All Flesh Must
Be Eaten, you're welcome to make your own character. The allowed
classes are Survivor, Inspired, Adept Heroes, and Talented Heroes.
The game begins on Thursday, June 14th, and continues every Thursday afterwards.

That's right, if you befriend Fanboy Comics on MySpace, you'll get a bulletin each week revealing our Tuesday Specials before Tuesday! Amazing!

Bullet Points TP
$13.99
Why does it seem like all I do these days is talk about how awesome J. Michael Straczynski is? I guess it's because he is awesome. This Bullet Points miniseries is an awesome "What if?" story that's pretty much truer to the characterizations of the flagship Marvel characters than a lot of the stuff that's come out in the past five years. Steve Rogers is even more heroic without the super-soldier serum, Peter Parker grows up without Ben Parker's influence and becomes an entirely different yet completely familiar character, and Reed Richards is at heart the same man in a vastly different situation. That's just a few of the characters whose roles are completely reimagined, yet whose characters are instantly recognizable to anyone familiar with the Marvel Universe. And all because of one bullet.
Dwarf Lord and Army Standard Bearer
$20.00
The most powerful fighters in a Dwarf army are its Lords and Thanes. Each of them has vast experience combating the enemies of their race, often built up over several centuries. Dwarf leaders are well tutored in the art of war, learning both from the elders of their own clans and the venerable Runesmiths. When the time comes for them to lead, they will have learned more than most commanders ever know and will have been tried and tested on the battlefield many times. This experience and wisdom is reflected in their beards, a clear indication that the other Dwarfs in the throng would do well to follow their example.
When battle is joined, it is the Lords & Thanes - with their finely crafted armour and rune-inscribed axes - who seek out the enemy's most powerful combatants, matching bestial fury or dark magic with courage, honor, and honest steel.
The 9/11 Report Graphic Adaptation
$16.95
On December 5, 2005, the 9/11 Commission issued its final report card on the government's fulfillment of the recommendations issued in July 2004: one A, twelve B's, nine C's, twelve D's, three F's, and four incompletes. Here is stunning evidence that Sid Jacobson and Ernie Colón, with more than sixty years of experience in the comic-book industry between them, were right: far, far too few Americans have read, grasped, and demanded action on the Commission's investigation into the events of that tragic day and the lessons America must learn. Using every skill and storytelling method Jacobson and Colón have learned over the decades, they have produced the most accessible version of the 9/11 Report. Jacobson's text frequently follows word for word the original report, faithfully captures its investigative thoroughness, and covers its entire scope, even including the Commission's final report card. Colón's stunning artwork powerfully conveys the facts, insights, and urgency of the original. Published on the fifth anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the United States, an event that has left no aspect of American foreign or domestic policy untouched, The 9/11 Report puts at every American's fingertips the most defining event of the century.
George W. Bush and the Weapons of Mass Distraction Trading Card Set
$14.99
This boxed set of 36 political trading cards brings back the art of political satire. [Editor's Note: Because political satire hasn't existed for years, you see.] Featuring all the wacky and zany Bush administration figures you've come to know and "love," complete with their career highlights, quotable quotes and mean-spirited and downright un-American jibes. [Editor's Note: I really hope a marketing guy wrote this, because if it's indicative of the content within, these things are terrible.] Written by Rich Johnston, a comic book industry gossip columnist from London, which makes him perfectly qualified to write this set of cards featuring detailed satirical jabs at the Bush administration-he'll be safe across the ocean. [Editor's Note: He'll also be safe because "Rich Johnson" is a man's name, and he looks like an effete woman sporting a spirit-gum beard, so they'll never find him.]

Every Thursday is Warmachine night at Fanboy Comics! And every player we see each week who we haven't seen playing Warmachine here before gets a two free movie tickets to Mayfaire Cinemas! We're also trying to get enough support to start a league, which means a whole bunch of awesome prizes! Seriously, folks, if you're at all interested in Warmachine, show up this Thursday and I will personally be there to show you how things work.

This hard-to-find book is adults only and was published by Tundra
Publishing in 1992, first edition. This rare book is in (VG) condition
with lite edge and corner wear and lite wear along spine. Very nice
full color interior!
Etude Magazine, 1935

published in Sept. 1935. These very rare magazines feature articles and
stories about almost every aspect of music, including instruments,
performers, musicians, exercises, history, and sheet music. For full
contents see photo. This issue has a Herbert Witherspoon cover. This
issue is in great shape for a magazine of its era. There's lite edge
and corner wear on front and back covers. There are come lite spots of
discoloration on back cover. Also, there's a name written in pen on
front cover, see photo and very small torn hole through front cover top
right corner. This paperwrapper, stable bound magazine has a nice and
complete interior. Don't miss out this great part of history.
If you produce a comic, or have some art you'd like to submit, or have
written a review or anything else that you'd like to see in the
newsletter, we're totally cool with that! Just email editor@fanboycomics.biz,
and we'll put your submission in the newsletter if it's appropriate!
Heck, you can even send in plain old comments about the newsletter, the
store, or one of our events and we might publish them! We're really
accommodating, it would seem.

Our spin racks, that is! They've been newly reorganized, and we've also reduced a heckuva bunch of our old comic sets! If you're looking for some complete stories at extremely low prices, then you can't go wrong with comic sets!
Here's a rundown of the main stuff we buy:
- Silver Age Superhero Comics - While recent comics are
all pretty enjoyable, we really only want the Silver Age Superhero
stuff. The Silver Age is generally going to be comics published on or
before 1977. It can sometimes be hard to figure out the date a comic
was published, so a good rule of thumb is that the cover price should
be $0.35 or less. And while we have nothing against comics not about
superheroes, the stuff we can sell is Silver Age Superheroes.
- Used Trade Paperbacks
- If they're in decent condition, we'll probably pick them up. It's
difficult to give any hard and fast guidelines for what we want,
because it depends a lot on what we have in stock and what we can order.
- Yu-Gi-Oh and Magic Singles
- We only buy rares, and I can give you even fewer guidelines about
this. Mac is in charge of all of our singles sales, and he works on
Thursday through Monday, so those are really the only days we can buy
any cards.
- Used Roleplaying Games - We'll look at
pretty much any roleplaying games. We don't usually buy stuff that is
currently in print, but if you've got the time to stop by, it's worth a
shot. We're always interested in classic Dungeons and Dragons books.
- Used Records
- Thomas buys a lot of old jazz and blues records for his personal
collection. Records are like CDs, except black and older. Kind of like
the blues musicians Thomas likes!
- Vintage Paperbacks and Pulps - I don't know anything about these. We might buy them, though!
Be sure to call before you come by to make sure we're not too busy to
look at your stuff! We can also set up an appointment. Just call (910)
452-7828 or email
fanboycomics@bellsouth.net.

Feel free to print out this image and fill it out and bring it to the store! Or just use one of the ones we have available. It's up to you!
