Time to start figuring out your 2500 point Warhammer 40,000 army, because the 'Ard Boyz tournaments are coming up! Fanboy Comics will be holding one of the first round tournaments, and the top three will get an invitation to the semifinals, which will probably be in Virginia or something. The winner of the semifinals will get a free 3000 point army, though!
Of course, we here at Fanboy want to offer more than just an opportunity to play in a tournament somewhere else. The winners will also get some awesome prizes:
1st Prize - Battleforce Box
2nd Prize - Regiment or Squad Box
3rd Prize - Blister Pack
I've uploaded a .pdf file of the 'Ard Boyz rules to the Fanboy Website here, since I can't find them on Games Workshop's page.
Also, you can keep playing Warhammer Fantasy in our league, which this flyer is about:

I never really knew that much about who Mike Wieringo was until all the recent tributes to him after he passed away recently. Apparently, Tellos was one of his signature works, and this hardcover collects most if not all of his work on it. I don't mean to use the man's death to sell this product. I just want people to know that, if they're interested, we're getting this in tomorrow.
$3.79 per BoosterMan, I really hope I don't get dragged into this game. It has all these cute little monsters, which I am tragically weak in resisting. It's also a CCG, which means I will have to spend a ton of money on it. It looks so fun though!
Dangit, I'm going to have to hold off until that Pokemon miniatures game comes out. That will be the thing that breaks me, I'm sure.

This is it, the omnibus that I thought had already come in because the Amazing Spider-Man Omnibus has that Amazing Fantasy #15 cover on it. This one is different, though! It has Tim Boo Ba on the cover, whatever or whoever that is! If you don't know, then you should definitely buy this newest release in the awesome Marvel Omnibus line. I don't know anything. I don't even know what's in the book. Fortunately, this blurb text does:
Collecting this lynchpin series of Marvel Comics' history for the first time ever, the Amazing Fantasy Omnibus puts AMAZING ADVENTURES #1-6, AMAZING ADULT FANTASY #7-14 and AMAZING FANTASY #15 between two hardcovers 45 years in the making.
$3.89 per BoosterAlright folks, get ready for some blurb text in panoramic TRADEMARKVISION(Ironically, this has not been trademarked.):

If you're like me, you always thought that Ultimate Spider-Man was pretty good, but largely just imitated the more popular arcs from Spider-Man's history with largely cosmetic changes. Well, this is where that all changes, and it's excellent. Ultimate Spidey's status quo is shaken to the core by the momentous events in this series, which features revelations, surprises, and a good deal of Ultimate Nick Fury. Peter's relationship with Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D. is brought to the forefront here, and it's always been one of the most interesting and unique aspects of the Ultimate series. And my previous complaints about the hardcover no longer apply, because this is the trade paperback version!
$10.00
A while ago, to support the Hero Initiative, Brian Michael Bendis and Mark Bagley decided that they would print 100 copies of Ultimate Spider-Man #100 with blank covers, and then give them to 100 artists to draw their own, unique covers to the book to sell at auction to support the Hero Initiative. Well, the whole thing was a huge success, so Marvel comics has put out a collection of the covers with an introduction by Stan Lee himself! There will only be one printing of this book, so you should definitely buy it immediately--you might not get another chance!
Here's a rundown of the main stuff we buy:
If there is anything you're looking for that we stock or can special order, we can ship it to you. We ship every Tuesday and if we have to special order the item it will take some extra time. $15.00 minimum order. We take Paypal, Money Orders, Checks and Credit Cards. Paypal is preferred. E-mail us.
As usual, a great many comic books have been pushed back to a later date. This news is so shocking that we are now developing a weekly section where we announce comic delays, so you can better know when your favorite books are coming out. Or when the next delay announcement will be, whatever. We'll also include other schedule announcements, like different products coming back in stock, second printings, and the like. But this is the comic industry, and we all know which type of announcment we will see the most.

Yeah, I found out recently that, for some reason, the forums haven't been sending out the activation emails that were supposed to go out, so nobody could register. Just allow me to say, "Whoops, my bad!" I believe that I have fixed the problem, but, if for some reason you still can't register for the forums, send me an email at editor@fanboycomics.biz. I really need to know when stuff is broken, otherwise I don't know to fix it.
Anyway, anyone who wants to register at the forums should definitely do so!

Do you really want me to keep going? Is it even needed? Can't I just point at the Booster Gold comic and make a caveman noise? Do I have to write more? Fine. But if you want beauty in this review, print it out on pink paper.
Before I get started, lets try to explain some things. Booster Gold is a lame-o, game throwing football player from the future with future tech toys. His only goal in life is to be a famous, loved and respected super-hero. And those are pretty much the only reasons he does anything. In this first issue, he is visited by Rip Hunter, The Time Master! Rip tells Booster that, because of the unstable nature of the 52 universes, there are "holes" in space/time that some bad guy time travelers are using to change the time line to their own ends. Rip wants Booster's help to fix the holes and set the time line right. But there's one catch. No one will ever know he did anything. So, if Booster helps Rip, he'd be the greatest hero the world has never known. Get it? It's on the cover! How clever! Insert a guest appearance by the JLA and some dude in a bad American Gladiator's outfit and you pretty much have the comic figured out. Now go watch TV or something.
Huh? You want more? Get serious. What more do I have to say? Alright, fine. This book sucks because its doing stuff that every other damn book has done. The time line is not erect! Some one go and, uh, erect it. No one will know my sacrifice? What shall I do? A talking little floating robot sidekick thingy? How original! Man. I guess I can see why DC is working on this comic. The Countdown and stuff is really hot right now and they are hoping to bank on people's curiosity. The only thing is, I'm not curious about Booster Gold. He's lame. His damn name is Booster Gold. He might as well tattoo "Loser" on his forehead and be done with it. And Time Master? Rip Hunter? Please. Get this guy out of here. I am neither impressed nor impacted by the writing in this book. Geoff Johns? Hello? You are being pulled too thin. Cut back, brother. Trust me.
The art? It's Dan Jurgens, so its capable, but not wonderful. He knows how to design a panel and move the story along. But he's not making the book any easier to flip through. The only thing that helps this book at all is the idea that Booster Gold might use his time traveling exploits to save Blue Beetle. Interesting, but been there, done that. I like Blue Beetle dead way more than I liked him alive. That might sound cold, but it's a cold world. Buy a sweater.
DC is producing some quality books right now. But its also producing straight crap. To tell the difference is easy. Pick up the book you're interested in and sniff. If it smells like your toilet, don't buy it. Life's too short to read mediocre comic books. Life is mediocre enough as it is. Okra is nasty. Ugh.
This will mark the second rebuttal I have written. The first was, of course, in respone to Bryan Sandala's Superman Confidential #1. However that one could be chalked up to a matter of taste. In this case, the reviewer is objectively wrong. Allow me to explain:
The Booster Gold comic is about having fun.
It is fun.
There we go. The book had one goal, and it accomplished it. Congratulations, this is what we in the (high-school dropout) editorial community call "a success." The only way you can dislike this book is if you dislike fun. In that case, you can read the thrilling story of Thor going to the grocery store or Warren Ellis running out of ideas halfway through a first issue. There's no fun to be had in those books! Just stoicism and grimness! Hooray, and welcome back to the nineties! Let's all buy more Wolverine/Darkness crossovers!
Anyway, Jarvis seems to pan this book for its unoriginality? I'm confused. There is literally no other book like this on the shelves. Booster Gold is one of the rarest things in comics: a unique character. There is no other hero who acts like Booster, and there is no other hero who has the same problems as Booster, and there is no other character who is as much fun as Booster. After reading Jarvis's review, I looked on the shelves and tried to find the myriad other comic books he referenced about a glory-seeking hero having to do the right thing even if it will make him unknown, and yet I couldn't find one! In fact, I couldn't really find any comic books about a hero like Booster Gold at all! Why, it's almost as if Jarvis was just pulling things out of his--[Editor's Note: The rest of my rebuttal was more or less a stream of cursing, and had to be cut. The point stands, though. Booster Gold is an excellent book and Jarvis is a failure.]
Writer: Mark Waid
Artist: Daniel Acuna
Publisher: DC Comics
Price: $2.99
So I guess I didn't give the last Flash comic I had to review a good enough beating. Instead of my words, I will use my fists this time! At least that was my thought. But once I started reading the book, I realized why the All Flash sucked so badly. It was simply a set up for getting the new creative team up and out of the gate. My problem is that I'm not entirely sure if it's a new gate, or one I want to deal with.
Let me fill you in. Flash and his wife, Linda, left when Infinite Crisis was wrapping up. Where did they go? I'm not super sure. But I do know it was Alien and I do know that the Alien people had some relations with Flashes. Anyway, when the babies became three months old, their Flash powers started to creep in. Linda, with limited medical training and the alien's aid, managed to regulate their powers and calm down their growth spurts, but not without some side effects. The twins have Flash related powers, but not exactly super-speed. Iris can vibrate her molecules to phase through objects, just like Kitty Pryde. And Jai can accelerate his muscle growth temporary to achieve super strength. Now, back in Keystone, Wally West thinks it's a smart idea to put costumes on his children so they can go out and, you know, save the world. Because that what Flashes do, damnit!
So, what's working? Well, the family stuff. Flash wants his kids to follow in his footsteps. Linda agrees because Wally wants it, but she's obviously pissed off about it. What mother wouldn't be? All a woman really wants are some kids and a stable house. That's it. Give her that and she'll, most times, leave you alone. Imagine what kind of heart ache she'll be going through as her children and her husband are off running around, trying to save the planet. And, plus, Flashes don't have the greatest track record. I'm surprised that Jay Garrick is still alive. And they won't shut up about Barry Allen, will they? He died during Crisis on Infinite Earth! Boo-hoo! Get me a napkin. Who cares? That happened a billion years ago. And now Wally West wants to keep the tradition alive. Great. Never heard that one before. Oh, I was supposed to focus on the positive. Sorry.
The art is the good stuff. Acuna's pages are some of the freshest and most interesting artwork I've seen in a long time. It has that "cell-shaded" quality to it that all the kids love now-a-days. And the Flash not only looks "Flashy", but the pacing of the book makes if feel fast. You are constantly moving your eye to keep up with all the movement. Really, really good stuff there. Fans of the Flash will be pleased with Acuna's take on him. And I'll be really interested to see him do any of the Justice Leaguers.
The one thing for me that will be holding this book back is that Mark Waid will be writing it. He is just too engrossed in his own writing style to make any new moves with the Flash. He's told some wonderful stories, and probably single handedly saved the character and re-invented the Flash history. But its was time for him to move on before and it is still time. So Wally West and Linda have super-human kids? So what? DC Comics is way to happy to toss kids into the battle field. For me, it would be more interesting to see The Flash raise his children, slowly, and for them to mature naturally. He would have to juggle being a super hero and a father. I see some missed opportunities with aging the children pre-maturely. Wasn't Impulse grown in a damn test tube? Whatever. The only thing that will keep this book floating is the art. Hopefully it will stay tight and on schedule.
Batman/Lobo: Deadly Serious #1
What, you thought that Lobo was just going to cameo in 52 and vanish back into obscurity? Well, no such luck. Lobo is back, and all up in the Dark Knight's grill--with Sam Keith doing the writing and art. Not only that, but it's in DC's fancy prestige format, which means it'll go on a bookshelf like a trade paperback! So you've got no excuse not to pick this one up, waiting-for-the-traders.
Green Lantern Corps #15
The Sinestro Corps War continues, and this time, Mogo's in the mix! I don't know exactly how you write and draw a fight scene between a planet and a city, but I have little doubt it will be awesome. Or, at the very least, incredibly confusing. That's the magic of comic books! Also, Kilowog punches a dude. If you haven't been reading the first good DC 'event' to come out since 52, then you should. Once the second printings come out, I guess.
Halo: Uprising #1
Get ready for the best video game adaptation since the Doom novels! If those were any good! The Eisner-Award-Winning team of Brian Michael Bendis (really?) and Alex Maleev (really?) reunite to compose the epic story of having various obscenities yelled at you by an anonymous person! Exclamation point! Prepare to explore the rich tapestry of the Halo universe, one same-looking alien corridor at a tme!
Mouse Guard: Winter 1152 #1
Did you miss out on the first Mouse Guard series? Well, there are two things you should do. One, you should buy the awesome hardcover collection of the first series and read it. Two, you should buy this first issue of the new series. The mice are trying to recover after the events of the previous series, but Winter is fast upon them. It doesn't look like things are going to get better anytime soon. Sorry, cute little dudes.
