The Fanboy Spotlight
Civil War Script Book
inside the hacktors studio$24.99

Ever wonder what was going through Mark Millar's mind during the writing of Civil War?  Besides, you know, a huge amount of alcohol?  Well, you're in luck, because Marvel is releasing this fancy-cat script book that allows you to take a look at Mark Millar's creative vision before Steve McNiven ruined it by drawing all these pictures around it.  Not only that, but it has deleted scenes!  It'll be interesting to see what was cut.  Maybe we'll be able to find the lost scene that explains anything that happens in Civil War 5!  Here's hoping!

Shazam! Series 1 Action Figures
there needs to be a shazam robot named shazbot i think$19.99 Each

Hey, have you ever wanted to buy an action figure of a boy in a sweater and a rabbit wearing a cape but never been able to find it?  Well have I got some great news for you!  Not only can you get both of those action figures, but they're in a two-pack, so you only have to pay the price of one!  Amazing, I know!

Oh, there's also some other figures.  Mary Marvel, Captain Marvel, Captain Marvel Jr., and Sivana.  As if anyone cares.

I mean, a boy wearing a sweater!  How cool is that?

Avengers: The Initiative - Basic Training HC
the only character out of character in this book is probably george w bush$19.99

So, I wasn't a big fan of Civil War.  However, nearly everything post-Civil-War has been gold, and nothing has been more intricately tied to the outcome of Civil War and well-crafted than Avengers: The Initiative, by Dan Slott.  Somehow, Slott juggles a huge cast of characters--many of them long-unused or even created whole cloth of the series--and makes all of them interesting characters who people care about.  Not only that, but he's laying plot threads all over the place and picking them up one at a time.  Seriously, this book is amazing.

Batman: Rules of Engagement HC
batman year one point seven four three i guess$24.99

Ever wonder why some dude who stops liquor store robberies decided he needs a jet and a supercomputer and crap like that?  Well, this is the comic that answers that question.  It's also a cool little Batman story with Lex Luthor and robots.  So, if you're up for a cool action-packed Batman story, this is definitely a fun one.

HeroClix: Mutations and Monsters Release Tournament This Weekend!

$20.00 Entry gets you two boosters to build your team from!  Over a brick's worth of prize support!

Gift Certificates: Oh My Goodness Gracious They Are Amazing

Nothing says, "This particular interest of yours alarms and confuses me but I am willing to tolerate it because of my fondness for you" like a Fanboy Comics Gift Certificate!

This rare book was published by Simon and Schuster in 1979, based on the screenplay by Harold Livingston and the story by Alan Dean Foster. This hardcover and dustjacket is in (VG) condition or better with lite edge wear on dust jacket. Very nice interior!

1994 Magazine #11-22

This auction is for 1984 #1-10 and 1994 #11-22. This magazine was published by Warren from 1978-83 and started out as 1984 before changing its name to 1994 with its 11th issue. This was an anthology magazine similar to Heavy Metal. Contains some adult material. Features of work by artists Richard Corben and Wallace Wood. This is almost a complete series but still a very nice run.

Schedule Schmedule

As usual, a great many comic books have been pushed back to a later date. This news is so shocking that we are now developing a weekly section where we announce comic delays, so you can better know when your favorite books are coming out. Or when the next delay announcement will be, whatever. We'll also include other schedule announcements, like different products coming back in stock, second printings, and the like. But this is the comic industry, and we all know which type of announcment we will see the most.

Grendel: Behold the Devil #1

Words and Pictures: Matt Wagner
Publisher: Dark Horse Comics
Price: $3.50

Man, this is like a Christmas present. And not like what my mom gets me every year, like socks. No, no. This is something I really want. Grendel is one of my favorite comic characters. I actually went as him for Halloween once and, surprise, no one knew who I was! Grendel's story is very alluring and compelling, thanks to the creativity and talent of Matt Wagner. I would try to explain the story to you, but I don't feel like it. I suggest you pick up some of the wonderful collections of the Grendel stories to get caught up. I have the entire collection of the original single stories, and they are first printings. So I'm better than you.

The premise for this limited series is a good one. The missing journal entries of Hunter Rose have been found. These journal entries date back to before Grendel ruled the East Coast underworld. This is the Grendel just beginning his brutal career. That means lots of death, lots of shooting. It also means that no one knows who Grendel is, with a gun-ho reporter looking for him and a detective hot on his very cold trail. And, whenever Grendel goes anywhere or does anything, he feels like he's being watched...

Besides just being a brand new Grendel story, this is a really, really good one. The art is fresh, the writing is tight, and I feel the love on every single page. I love Matt Wagner. He is, by far, one of the best creators in his field. Not just Grendel, but Mage is great and so are all the amazing Batman covers that Matt Wagner has done. Is it too much to ask for an on going Batman story by Wagner? Or maybe a brand new Mage series? Is that too much to ask? The only thing you should worry about is the subject matter. There are boobies in this comic, readers. So don't let little Billy read it. Oh, and people get killed a lot too. But that's not a big deal.

Thunderbolts: Breaking Point One-Shot

Christos N. Gage: Writer
Brian Denham: Artist
Guru eFX: Colors
Publisher: Marvel
Price: $2.99

I like Thunderbolts and I always have. Its strange to me that this book can keep going on the simple premise of having villains dancing around as heroes. And, every time I think they are going to run out of steam, some one comes around and pulls off another great story arc. If you think about it, and oh I have, the reasons this book keeps working is because of the moral choices that all the characters deal with on a regular basis. Moonstone wants power and influence. Radioactive Man wants to do the best job possible. But Songbird? What does she want? Does she really want the team to work? Or is there more than that? Does wanting power, even for the right reasons, still wrong?

Thunderbolts: Breaking Point is a one shot focusing on the power struggle between Moonstone and Songbird and Songbird's very tumultuous family relationship. Songbird pulls rank and takes over the team during a battle (with Brother Earth. God). Moonstone worries about her control of the team, as well as realizes that her plan to kill Songbird in the field won't work. Moonstone cooks up another plan, bringing Songbird's mother to the base after years of separation. Clean, sober, and ready to love, Songbird's mother seems honest enough. But an accident kills her soon after, sending Songbird into a depression and successfully taking her off the team.

Well, at least that is what I think happens? This book is confusing. Not confusing like the Countdown/52/Final Crisis crap. It's confusing because I think I know what happened in the story, but I'm not sure. See, the book alludes that Songbird's mother was killed by Norman Osborn aka The Green Goblin. The book also eludes that Moonstone cleverly convinces Songbird's mother to confront Osborn. But we never knew if any of that is true. I will freely admit that I'm a moron and sometimes don't get things. But this comic is very, very vague. I think this is an attempt of Gage to be cool and have a few twists and turns in the comic. But it doesn't achieve what he was aiming for. It just confuses.

The art is decent. There are a few too many up-close face zooms for me. Its almost over inked, or maybe over colored. Could art be over done? Its like a woman wearing too much makeup. But it serves the purpose. This comic is for Songbird and Thunderbolt fans only. I'm not sure why this story couldn't work into the regular Thunderbolts series, I don't know what you young kids are doing.

CRANK UP THE MANOWAR, PEOPLE, IT'S TIME TO VIKE! Northlanders is coming out tomorrow--a comic book about Vikings. Not only that, but a historical comic book about vikings, featuring a viking from an elite unit of viking guards in Constantinople--which actually existed in history! History is so cool. If there's a way to screw this up, I don't know what it is. Maybe in a few months Thor will no longer be the coolest Norseman in comics.

it doesn't get any more ultimate than this! HUYHAHHHHHUltimates 3 #1

Well, here it is.  The first Ultimates series without Mark Millar or Bryan Hitch.  I've got to say, I'm a little wary.  On one hand, Jeph Loeb wrote Batman: The Long Halloween and is a writer for Heroes.  On the other hand, Jeph Loeb wrote Onslaught: Reborn and is a writer for Heroes.  I can say that, at the very least, Joe Madueria's art will be a sight to behold.  They're doing this cool thing where the colorist paints right over his pencils, and if you've seen any of the art previews, you know just how awesome that looks.  Otherwise, it'll all depend on whether we get talented Jeph Loeb or terrible hack Jeph Loeb to show up for this one.

Well, by now, everyone should have read the end of World War Hulk.  Personally, I'm in the crowd that likes it, but that could just be because of how charming and intelligent I am.  I'm sure the slovenly unwashed masses out there have their own, inane reasons for disliking it, if they do.  This book adds a bit more to the conclusion of World War Hulk, and sets up some plotlines that will undoubtedly play out in the future.  Also, it's pretty cool in general, so there is that.
