Amazing Spider-Man #546I'm sure by now you've all read the conclusion to One More Day. It sure did...happen, didn't it? Or maybe it didn't. It's MAGIC, you see. Anyway, even if you didn't like One More Day, the current party line is, "Well, see, this is a Brand New Day. Don't judge the people who are writing the new stuff because Joe Quesada did a drive by on Spider-Man and unloaded a clip of magic bullets into the character's chest! They're just poor schmoes like Dan Slott and Marc Guggenheim! You can't hate them, can you?" The worst thing is, they're right. There's no way to express displeasure for Spider-Man: One More Day that doesn't just kind of spite the new creative team, made out of probably the most scientifically likable comics writers Marvel has. So, I guess we'll all have to judge Brand New Day for what it is. Reprints of the original Stan Lee issues.
ZING!
Hulk #1
Have you missed Hulk since World War Hulk? Well, you're in luck, because there's a new Hulk. Except he's red. Oh, and also, we don't know who the heck he is. Well, I've read the preview issue, and--not to spoil anything--I'm still not sure who he is. I do know some other stuff, though, but you can read it for yourself.
Mighty Avengers #7
I haven't read Mighty Avengers #7, but it's got a few things going for it. First, it's Bendis and Bagley back together for one last heist or something, so you know it will be on time. Heck, it might even be ahead of schedule. Two, it's going to have Doctor Doom in it, which is awesome. Three, it's got a Secret Invasion: Infiltration label on it, which makes me think there might be a big reveal in it! This could be one to keep an eye on.
The Twelve #1
J. Michael Straczynski has more or less earned a free pass for me. Aside from One More Day, (the conclusion of which was more or less written straight up by Joe Quesada if you read between the lines--specifically, between the lines above and below the part where JMS straight up says it) I've loved his Spidey run. Some of the ideas he came up with might have been a little weird, but the man writes Peter Parker really well. Silver Surfer: Requiem was probably the best miniseries--heck, maybe the best story--in comics last year. Rising Stars was awesome. He and Brubaker are probably the two best writers in Marvel's stable right now, and Brubaker might only get the top nod because of the volume of work he's producing and the franchises he's producing it for.
So when I say that the start of the Twelve has me hopeful that JMS could be creating one of his best works ever with this series, I hope it'll make you sit up and take notice.
