New Avengers: Illuminati Premiere HC
i can't wait for new avengers - rothschilds$19.99

Did you read New Avengers: Illuminati?  If not, you missed Brian Michael Bendis doing something no comic creator has done in nearly twenty years--acknowledged that Secret Wars II existed.  Not only that, but he also had the Beyonder wearing his awesome leisure suit and sporting a bitchin' rad jerry curl.  In a comic published within the last year or so!  How ballsy do you have to be to do that?

Oh, I also think that there's some other stuff in here, and it's all excellent as you would expect a Bendis-written (well, co-written with Brian Reed I suppose) and Jim-Cheung-Drawn comic book would be, but that really pales in comparison to the whole jerry curl thing.

Magic: The Gathering - Morningtide

this is a cavalcade of whatever the heck is going on in magic these daysBoosters: $3.99 Each
Theme Decks: $12.99 Each
Fatpacks: $35.00 Each

Conflict continues in the world of Lowryn as mighty races find common ground – and power – by forming new tribes based on their classes. Wizards, Warriors, Shamans, Soldiers, and Rogues give a boost to their “classmates” from Lorwyn and bring a new tool for battle: Tribal Equipment.

Whether you’re a fan of Elves, Giants, Goblins or Merfolk, on February 1st Morningtide will bring your tribe a whole new set of possibilities. Morningtide expands on the themes introduced in Lorwyn and unveils three brand-new mechanics: Kinship, Reinforce, and Prowl.

X-Men: Endangered Species HC
grant morrison was working on a project like this when he was on x-men but it was called 'x-men - transgendered species' and that is why he got kicked off the book TELL YOUR FRIENDS$24.99

If you don't remember, Endangered Species was a series of back-up stories that ran throughout the four core X-titles (The surprisingly misogynistically-titled X-Men, Uncanny X-Men, New X-Men, and X-Factor-Men) starring Beast and recounting his attempts to save the mutant race from extinction.  It was a pretty good little story but somewhat choppy and a little difficult to follow what with the four different titles it was in.  However, this hardcover rectifies that situation with the full Endangered Species storyline in one place.  It's definitely worth a glance if you enjoyed Messiah Complex.

Manhunter Vol. 4 TP - Unleashed
if you didn't buy this book it means you are terrible and/or i hate you$17.99

You're probably thinking to yourself, "Pfft, why's he spotlighting something like Manhunter?   Nobody read that book."  That's exactly why I'm spotlighting it, because it was an amazing book and if DC had considered that just maybe they should put out a trade paperback before the book was on, say, issue SIXTEEN, it might have been able to build more than the small cult following it did.  Oh, I'm also highlighting this becasue I'm a huge hypocrite and I didn't read Manhunter until recently either.  Still, it's really good.  At the very least you can help Marc Andreyko's street cred and maybe get him writing another book by picking up these trades, even if you can't bring the series back.

Oh, a quick note for jaded people like me: this isn't one of those "cult following" books like Spider-Girl that's actually terrible.  It's actually really good.

We haven't added any fancy stuff that's worth listing here, but we have been adding a ton of back issues to our regular back issue boxes, so check that out!  Also, we've been making room by taking out a bunch of back issues and adding them to our dollar boxes, so be sure to stop by on tuesdays and check out some of the new additions!

Schedule Schmedule

As usual, a great many comic books have been pushed back to a later date. This news is so shocking that we are now developing a weekly section where we announce comic delays, so you can better know when your favorite books are coming out. Or when the next delay announcement will be, whatever. We'll also include other schedule announcements, like different products coming back in stock, second printings, and the like. But this is the comic industry, and we all know which type of announcment we will see the most.

World War Hulk Aftersmash: Damage Control #1

Writer: Dwayne McDuffie
Artist: Salva Espin
Colorist: Guru EFX
Publisher: Marvel Comics
Price: $2.99

If you read World War Hulk, then you know that New York City was completely wrecked by the events. I mean, just destroyed. Its not the first time NYC has been trashed. But it's happening an awful lot. The scale of it alone impresses. I'm not sure how Marvel is going to "One Up" that whole thing, but I'm sure it will be stupid and not work. Some of you guys might be wondering, how do you fix all the damage super-heroes cause? Who pays for it? Who does it? The answer is simple, True Believer. Damage Control!

I really don't understand why anyone would want to get this book. I mean, it is funny. And it has some great scenes and the art is fresh. So, alright, that's why someone might want it. The thing I don't get is why Marvel decided to make it. Basically, this comic is an action comic if your idea of action are board room meetings, contract negotiations, and rebuilding design plans. It isn't boring. It's just odd. Like putting ketchup on your eggs. Why would anyone want to do that?

Damage Control will show Super-human registration act and the problems attached to it. With the Thunderbolts showing up at the end, and the new Black Goliath (geez), then there should be some fireworks. I doubt very seriously if Damage Control holds enough weight or interest to be an ongoing series. But it could answer some lingering questions, and give you a laugh or two. And Salva Espin's art is not hard to look at. Marvel is pulling some impressive work, art wise. I just wish their editorial department was as up to snuff.

Young Avengers Presents: Patriot #1

Writer: Ed Brubaker
Penciler: Paco Medina
Inker: Juan Viasco
Publisher: Marvel Comics
Price: $2.99

So when can I get a metal arm? Forge has one. Cable has one. Even that loser, the Winter Soldier has one. Eh, I guess I have to wait. I have made it very clear to everyone I know that I wish Bucky stayed dead. He was better as a legend than this moody, ill tempered cry baby that we have now. What is up with these young guys looking at these role models, asking for advice and crying when they die? It's getting old.

Young Avengers Presents: Patriot falls into some of those trappings. Eli Bradley is the grandson of the original, true Captain America. As you should know, the first Captain America was black, just like Jesus was black and Brad Pitt is really black. Patriot is having some problems with the death of Captain America. He is also having some issues with being a black guy calling himself Patriot. I find this a bit amusing. There are, like, a lot of marines and army guys fighting and stuff. Millions. I'm sure they call themselves Patriots. Yeah, the government has screwed the black man. But the government has also screwed poor people, American Indians, the homeless, Mexicans and Eskimos. The United States Government is an equal opportunity bastard. So the Patriot should just get over it. The only color the government cares about is green. Green like V aliens. Man, I love that show.

Anyhow, we get to see some Winter Soldier action. More and more it looks like he is going to be the new Captain America. It is almost obvious at this point. As for the Young Avengers, I'm not sure if this spotlight book is doing the work it should or could. The point of it is to spotlight them, show why they are special. I didn't get much of that. Maybe the Winter Soldier stole the show. But, for now, these Young Avengers aren't impressing me. The art, by Paco Medina, is solid. There are some places that it's a bit lazy, not putting the energy into it that Jim Cheung would do. It will be very interesting to see how these young heroes deal with the registration act and Cap's death. It is Marvel, guys. So, chances are they will just strike a deal with the devil to get the whole mess erased, like it never happened. Oh, Snap! Burn!

i considered just downloading the deus ex box art and putting it next to this review when I had trouble finding this cover art on image's website

New World Order #1

Writer: Gustavo Higuera
Artist: Giuseppe De Luca
Colors: Guillermo Ucha
Publisher: Image Comics
Price: $3.50

I'll start this review with a quote:

"What we experience here on Earth is but an Extension of a cosmic battle between the forces of Darkness and Light that has been waged since the immemorial..."

Wow. Just wow. Ok. Amazing. Some one sat down at a desk and thought, what should my comic book be about? He might have had a few original and interesting ideas. But then, he probably turned on the television and watched some Highlander. Then he might have switched channels and watched some old-school V. Then he might have watched the De Vinci Code. Then he might have went to the toilet and looked at his stools. All inspiration for this sad excuse for a comic book.

What's this comic about? It's about a bunch of tired clichés, that's what. If I read one more comic about conspiracy theories, I'm jumping off a roof. I'm so tired of people thinking that the world is all secrets and shadows and puppet governments. You want to know the big secret of the world? You want to know the big damn conspiracy? Rich people screw everyone else for money. That's it. I just solved every mystery ever known to man, ever. And I did it without making you read a twenty page comic book with a man smoking a pipe, aliens, superpowers or some stupid religious garbage.

This comic is just bad. It has everything I hate about the world. There is even a stupid "Chosen One" in here, guided by dudes from space. Really? Is that what's hot on the street? The Re-Evolution has begun? If this comic is the re-evolution, then drop the A-bombs and kill us all right now.

Don't buy this comic. Just don't. Annihilation: Conquest, Messiah Complex, The Sword, Green Lantern, DMZ--these are good comics. There are so many great comics out there, why waste your money on the bad ones? You know what, and I can't believe I'm saying this. You should buy Booster Gold before you buy this comic. Wow. This really might be the end of the world.

So, the x-books finished a huge, 13-week continuous crossover, there's a new status quo, and anything can happen.  What's Ed Brubaker going to do with the flagship X-Men title?  Well, Cyclops and Emma Frost are vacationing in the Savage Land; Nightcrawler, Colossus, and Wolverine are going on a road trip; and Angel is in San Francisco, which has been mysteriously changed to the 60's version of San Francisco!

...

Yeah, I know.  Let's just give Ed Brubaker the benefit of the doubt because he's an amazing writer.
