This is it, the final part of one of the best comics Vertigo ever released. Y: The Last Man was awesome adventure, science fiction, and social satire wrapped around fascinating characters and amazing writing. And this is the last of it. I'll miss it, but I'd rather have a brilliant finished series than a brilliant series that may never end (see: Planetary). Thanks, Brian K. Vaughan, for writing a really awesome thing (again).

This is the second part of the epic Sinestro Corps War storyline that rocked the Green Lantern universe last year. It was pretty much completely amazing, with huge awesome fights, crazy new ideas, and some top-notch writing thanks to Geoff Johns, Dave Gibbons and Pete Tomasi. On the art side, everyone puts in some excellent work, but Ivan Reis steals the show with some amazing splash pages (although Ethan Van Sciver's limited contributions are pretty excellent in and of themselves). This is a comics event that became an event due to the quality of the work, and not the quality of the marketing. If you've ever enjoyed any Green Lantern stuff ever, check this story out. It rocks.

People seem to think that I hate Astonishing X-Men (Joss Whedon) because it (he) is overrated and overhyped. That's not true. I think it (he) is very, very good! I just don't think it (he) is a godlike super-entity sent down from heaven to revolutionize how comic books are created by coming out with one issue every other year! There are several comics (writers) that (who) are better than Astonishing X-Men (Joss Whedon). It (he) is very good, but it (he) isn't the best there is. That's what gets stuck in my craw and causes me to complain (whine).
Anyway, this trade paperback is the conclusion to Joss Whedon's very good run on X-Men. You should check it out!

This action figure series has Jonah Hex! He's cool and I don't know if he's ever had an action figure before! Oh, it also has an old-school Hawkman design that is kind of terrifying because his eyes are part of his mask and not his head! Also Superman (YAWN) and Batgirl (SEXY YAWN). So hey, there's something for everyone, even crazy people who like Hawkman!

The curse of Greg Rucka is this: to write the greatest comics with the lowest sales. Question: The Five Books of Blood was another example of this curse. It was an amazing series that didn't sell nearly as well as it should have. I like to blame that in some small part on John Van Fleet's covers, which were computer generated and therefore terrible. Once you get past the covers, though, you have a book with high-quality interior art and five self-contained stories that still compose a larger narrative. Five excellent self-contained stories with great characterization and interesting plots. Seriously, you should read this one if you missed it before. If only to help Rucka break the curse.

This set contains a digest-sized hardcover version of the first Hellboy story, Seed of Destruction, along with a 4" tall Hellboy figure! If you've never read any Hellboy or don't own any versions of Seed of Destruction or anything like that, then I would say this set is a pretty good figure set, but who can truly say with any certainty what is or isn't? Truly, it's metaphysical caveats like this that make me such a great salesman.

So I guess this comic was written by the lead singer of My Chemical Romance, a band that, depending on your age and gender, all the really cool people like or all the really cool people hate. I'll frame myself as an impartial observer, as I have not heard any My Chemical Romance and have been a fan of some profoundly terrible music. So, with this in mind, what is my verdict on Umbrella Academy? I don't know. I read like two issues. They seemed good. Grant Morrison says it's good, so I'll agree with him.

Sandman was a big deal back in the day. It still is, I guess, which is why they're releasing these crazy-huge recolored absolute editions. I personally own the first two, and let me tell you, they are fancy. The recoloring is beautiful, and the pages are huge and the production values are through the roof. If you're in the market for a really nice version of an all-time great story, then you can't do better than this.

You may have perhaps heard of the Marvel Zombies, it is possible. There was a first series that was very well received, and then an entertaining but likely ill-advised crossover involving the ever-popular Ash from Army of Darkness. Then there was this third series, which jumped the timeline 40 years in the future and saw the Marvel Zombies returning to Earth after devouring pretty much the rest of the universe. What happens from there is part horror, part comedy, and part ridiculous, but it can't be said it wasn't entertaining.

By now, you probably know enough to know whether you want the 4th edition Dungeons and Dragons material. You know about the rules changes, the new design philosophy, and so on and so forth. If you don't, you can probably find stuff out there about it anyway and there's too much for me to explain here (although you could find out a lot of details at D&D Game Day). So, instead, let this just serve as a reminder that the newest edition of the oldest, most popular role-playing game comes out this week. All three core books will be here: the Player's Handbook, Dungeon Master's Guide, and Monster Manual.
